Car V-belts
Structure of alternator belt or propeller belt
Dynamo belt or propeller belt, if they are used in a single body and as a spiral belt or if they are two separate items, in any case, they are considered a type of power transmission belt. Power transmission belts are V-shaped belts. These belts are called V-BELT shaped belts. The reason for this name is the shape of the V-shaped cross-section, which has a trapezoidal shape. This form makes it the strap that makes it sit better on your wallet and creates a good stretch. Some of these belts are smooth and flat on one side and grooved on the other side. The flat surface is placed on the inside of the belt. The length of the propeller belt is usually chosen according to the structure of the technical components of the car. Butterfly belt or dynamo belt is made from a combination of yarn, natural fibers and plastic. In this way, the fibers and threads are pulled together and the plastic layer covers and protects them.
It is thought that we have heard about alternator belt or propeller belt during car repairs. You may think that the two are separate and have separate functions. But these two belts are actually one piece for which two different names are proposed. Alternator belts are mostly used in transverse engines and propeller belts are mostly used in longitudinal engines.
In longitudinal engines that use a propeller belt, one of the functions of the belt is to rotate the propeller, and in transverse engines that use a dynamo belt, the fan propeller is rotated by a DC motor.
Dynamo belt or propeller belt or spiral belt is a type of power transmission belt that is responsible for transmitting engine torque to various car components such as water pump, oil pump, alternator and air conditioning system. This belt has a special pulley or pulley that is attached to the crankshaft. By wrapping the belt around this pulley, the power of the crankshaft is transferred to it. In this way, when the engine starts working and the crankshaft rotates, it starts moving and transfers the engine torque to the components in its path and stops when the engine stops.
This short description shows the importance of this belt to some extent. Because causing any problem in this belt will stop the operation of all the components related to them. The alternator belt can be one or two separate belts that rotate around the listed components. And when it is one, it is called a spiral belt. Because along its path, it wraps around several coils and takes on a winding appearance. In longitudinal engines, the propeller belt is usually closed in the front part and close to the radiator and the crank head, and the dynamo belt is found on the left side of the engine and the crank head.
The V-shaped car belts, which are produced in the form of a mold and are usually ribbed or ribbed, are resistant to heat and oil and are anti-static. One of the reasons for their resistance to longitudinal changes is that several belts can be used together. These belts have a long useful life due to their high flexibility, proper seating in the Foley groove and less heat during operation.
Numbering system of V-shaped belts
This numbering system includes a code covering the upper width and outer useful length of the belt.
For example: AVX13 x 1350
AVX13 = upper width in mm
1350mm = external circumference in millimeters (La)
The first digit of the belt number is a code for the upper width in millimeters.
The system includes the following codes:
AVX10/9.5
AVX13/12.5
AVX17
AVX22
